⚙️ How It Works
💊

Two Delivery Routes

Sublingual film (in S3, S4, S8 stacks) for combined delivery, or intranasal spray (W3 Glow Mist) for direct brain access. Nasal bypasses breakdown by peptidases in the gut.

🧠

Reaches the Brain's Social Centers

Oxytocin engages receptors in the amygdala (anxiety center), hypothalamus (arousal), and prefrontal cortex (social cognition). This is the same system that activates during bonding.

😌

Anxiety Reduces, Trust Increases

OT downregulates the amygdala's fear response. Performance anxiety, self-consciousness, and "spectating" (watching yourself instead of being present) all decrease.

💜

Bonding Pathway Activates

The same neurochemical system that creates secure attachment between partners. Oxytocin enhances emotional proximity and the feeling of being "tuned in" to each other.

Blood Flow + Sensation Enhance

OT also supports the endogenous nitric oxide pathway — contributing to genital blood flow. Combined with the anxiolysis, this creates a more relaxed, connected, and physically responsive experience.

📋 Considerations

✅ Generally very well tolerated

  • Mild headache (uncommon)
  • Slight nasal irritation (spray route only)
  • Very mild drowsiness or warmth
  • One of the gentlest compounds in the MELTS formulary

🔴 Critical safety

  • Pregnancy contraindication — oxytocin can induce uterine contractions
  • Not for use during breastfeeding
  • Nasal spray requires refrigeration
  • Deviated septum or chronic sinusitis → use sublingual route instead
Common Questions
Is this the same oxytocin used in labor?
Same molecule, very different dose and route. Hospital Pitocin is given intravenously to induce contractions. MELTS uses much smaller sublingual or nasal doses (25-100 IU) for neurological effects — bonding, anxiolysis, and enhanced sensation. These doses do not cause contractions but pregnancy is still an absolute contraindication.
Does oxytocin help with performance anxiety?
Yes — this is one of its primary uses. Oxytocin downregulates the amygdala's fear response, reducing the "spectating" effect where you're anxiously monitoring your own performance instead of being present. This is why S3 Connection pairs OT with PDE5 inhibitors for relationship-focused intimacy.
Nasal spray vs sublingual — which is better?
Nasal spray (W3 Glow Mist) gets to the brain faster and is ideal as a standalone connection enhancer — great pre-encounter ritual for couples. Sublingual (in S3, S4, S8 stacks) is combined with other active ingredients for a multi-mechanism approach. Both are effective; the choice depends on whether you want OT alone or as part of a stack.
